About the Partners

Two local crews, one powerful mission.

SeaKeeper Academy is a partnership between two trusted Long Beach organizations: Algalita and Long Beach Sea Base. Together, we’re combining science and seamanship to help middle school students explore the bay, connect with nature, and grow into confident stewards of the sea.

Algalita

Based in Long Beach, Algalita is a nonprofit that’s been leading the fight against plastic pollution for over 25 years. Our team of educators and scientists creates programs that help young people understand ocean health, investigate real environmental issues, and discover how they can make a difference.

In SeaKeeper Academy, they lead the science side — water testing, microplastics analysis, field journals, and big-picture thinking about how to care for our planet.

Long Beach Sea Base

Located on Alamitos Bay, Long Beach Sea Base is a one-of-a-kind maritime learning center where young people build confidence and skill on the water. With decades of experience in boating and safety education, Sea Base is all about empowering students to lead, paddle, and explore.

In SeaKeeper Academy, Sea Base leads the seamanship side — kayaking, navigation, water safety, and building trust on the docks and in the bay.

Why This Partnership Works

We each bring something different, and together, we create something truly special.

Algalita brings science, environmental action, and reflection.
Sea Base brings skill-building, maritime tradition, and teamwork.

At SeaKeeper Academy, students get the best of both worlds, and become something more: a crew of young explorers ready to protect what matters.
